I re-tweeted the following article on my Twitter account.
Touching a Great White
However, it was brought to my attention that not only is it illegal, it jeopardizes diving operations in Guadeloupe, and that indirectly jeopardizes the shark population.
I knew it was illegal. But, I did not think about it affecting the diving operations and possibly the shark population.
Having dive boats in the area deters poachers; helps keep these a**holes from killing off sharks for personal gain. Well, if diving operations get shut down for illegal activity, you lose that avenue for poacher control. In turn, poaching could spike.
It makes sense when you think about it. Granted, one incident is not going to shut down all diving operations, and this probably happens quite frequently, but the possibility exists.
